How to save your laptop’s battery for a longer time?(2)
Hibernation and standby modes
Hibernation mode shuts down the laptop after it’s saved the current state of the computer to
the hard disk. This allows you to restart the computer a bit quicker than if it had been
completely shut off; while the machine’s hibernating, it doesn’t draw power from the battery.
Standby mode puts the computer’s current state into memory, which allows you to quickly
restart the system without having to load the operating system and information from the hard
disk. On the downside, the laptop requires a small amount of power from the battery to keep the
information in memory, and if you run out of power while in standby mode, all information held
in RAM is lost. Your laptop’s power mode software usually offers users several customization
options
You may be able to instruct the system to automatically go into one or the other mode when the
on/off button is depressed for a few seconds. Similarly, you may be able to go immediately into
standby by merely closing the laptop cover. Read the printed instruction manual or the installed
electronic guide that’s on most new laptops for details of your machine. You can also go to the
Control Panel and select Power Options to see may block the Windows power controls and direct
you to use their own software.
