How to Type Symbols Using the ALT Key

How to Type Symbols Using the ALT Key(2)

Tips
1.Some characters will show an ALT+Keystroke combination. This will be displayed in the lower right corner of the character map utility. In order to use this shortcut, hold down the alt key while you type in the entire code. When you release the ALT key the glyph will appear.

2.On some computers this will only work if your Num Lock is on.

3.The ASCII range of 97-122 has the lower-case letters of the alphabet and 65-90 range has the capitalized letters of the alphabet The numbers beyond 170 can also have meaning, such as special characters and the Greek alphabet.

4.Some combinations may require a 0 before the 3 digit combination

5.To type with special symbols you may also use transliteration tools.

Warnings
1.This only works with programs which accept an ASCII input, such as email, NotePad, WordPad, etc. Try it for the program you are using. Programs that do not support this feature may render the character as a question mark (?).

2.Character encodings and character sets do vary by computer system, so you may find that one code does different things on a Windows machine versus a Macintosh.
